hostels book or not

Hi.

Check https://hostelworld.rail.cc for detailed information and rankings.

I recommend to book at least one night in advance - it is much more comfortable to arrive in a new city knowing where to go and where to put your backpack.
And you definitely save a lot of time.

Peter :)
